A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.

A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

My Review 3.5 stars

Jacob is on a mission. Something terrible happens to make him go to Wales, this is where he discovers Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children. As he is looking around one day Jacob finds photos that will change everything he has ever thought. He now believes the stories he was told.

I think I’m the last person to start this series my first thoughts before I even started were that I knew nothing about the series other than it was coming out as a movie, the first two books were an impulse buy as I saw then at Tesco really cheap so i just could not buy them. This book was just incredible it didn’t wow me like i thought it would but it was still an enjoyable read.

Jacob is just your ‘normal’ teenager he has a job that he isn’t interested about and he only has one friend. His grandad told him stories about crazy stuff that at first he did believe them but as Jacob got older he thought his grandad was making it up. As time went on something terrible happens that will make Jacob believe.

This is where Jacob and his dad go to Wales. Jacob is thrown into a world he didn’t know still exited.

One day Jacob meets Emma who isn’t all she seems. Jacobs meets the peculiar children who have some crazy abilities to being invisible, a girl who can float, a girl who can make fire just appear in her hands or even someone who can control bees and has them living inside of him. Is Jacob peculiar?

Jacob goes through a lot in this book he has to deal with death, people thinking he has gone crazy, Jacob finally finds himself surrounded my people who need him, does he stay or does he go back to his life at home?

In this book you have so much going on like Jacob learning everything, loops, a bird getting stolen, a hollowgast and then we have wights.

The writing style is very easy to read, the plot isn’t confusing at all, we have a great group of characters that you just want to learn more about. It’s not just Jacob finding out about the peculiars but why was his grandad involved? why were the children in hiding the first place?

  1. I really enjoyed this series. It is one of my favorite. I am planning on re reading it because I read the books so quickly I couldn’t stop. Are you planning on reading book 2 any time soon? It gets so much better in the next two books.
